4in (102mm) and 6in (152mm) Asphalt Permeameters use the falling head method to determine the permeability of asphalt cores or laboratory compacted specimens. These self-contained units are easy to operate and provide fast, accurate permeability results. A Latex Membrane is pulled against the sides of the cylinder using the included hand pump when seating or removing the sample and pressurized to fill voids on the outside of the sample during testing. The confining pressure is monitored throughout the test using the gauge located on the front panel of the Permeameter. The flow of water from the 500cc Manometer through the sample is then timed to determine the permeability of the asphalt sample.
4in Asphalt Permeameter is conceptually the same as the apparatus described in Florida DOT test method FM 5-565 but does not accommodate the minimum required sample diameter.
6in Asphalt Permeameter conforms to Florida DOT test method FM 5-565.
