The Back Pressure Consolidometer is designed for consolidation testing of soils and also measures pore pressure and permeability. The unit is secured in a consolidation system (sold separately), such as the Karol-Warner Pneumatic Consolidation Load Frame and connected to a Master Panel with Pressure Readout (sold separately) in order to regulate cell pressures and determine permeability values.
The Consolidometer tests 2.50 x 1.0in (63.5 x 25.4mm) samples and features a stainless steel cap with a piston passing through linear bearings, which is used to transfer loads to the test sample. This unit also includes ports with quick connect fittings for confining pressure application up to 200psi (1400kPa), and a bottom port for monitoring pressure/flow rate.
This unit includes a Sample Ring with a built-in cutting edge for easy and efficient sample preparation, flexible tubing, and two Porous Stones. Sample Rings and Porous Stones are available for purchase separately to accommodate additional sample preparation. An optional stainless steel Calibration Disc (sold separately) can be used in place of a soil sample to determine total system deflection under the applied load.
