Clear AllA Shear Box is used for direct shear testing of soil specimens to determine the shear strength of a soil sample. These shear box apparatus' divide horizontally, allowing the application of a vertical confining load to the specimen and horizontal shearing stresses to the lower half of the box. The upper half remains stationary. Once you have the test results and shear failure has been recorded, the force direction can be reversed to determine residual shear values.
These devices fit Karol-Warner Direct Shear Machines and meet requirements of ASTM D3080 and AASHTO T 236 for testing the shear strength of soils. They are available in a variety of sizes to test circular or square specimens, inquire about larger sizes, inquire about larger sizes.
Included with each unit are top and bottom Porous Stones and a stainless steel Loading Ball. A Shear Box Counterbalance (purchased separately) offsets the weight of the top half of round or square boxes with specimen dimensions 2.5in (63.5mm) or smaller.
